CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF GIS DAY
This year, in honor of GIS Day, we’re hosting an internal map contest and inviting employees to showcase their innovative solutions to environmental problems through the power of GIS. Whether it’s tracking wildlife migration, mapping climate change impacts, or managing natural resources, this contest is a testament to the transformative potential of spatial analysis.
This year’s theme for the map contest invites participants to choose an environmental problem and create an online map using ArcGIS that offers a solution or new insights. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the skills and passion that team members have for the environment and solving important problems with technology. Past winning maps have exemplified the technical and cartographic expertise of the GIS team. We can’t wait to see the creative and impactful maps that will emerge from this year’s contest.

At SWCA, our Geospatial Sciences Program is guided by exceptional leaders which include Anne Russel, Jayme Fontenot, Glenn Dunno, Clay Donaldson, and Christian Hartnett. Each of these leaders brings a unique blend of expertise, vision, and passion for GIS, driving our initiatives forward and ensuring that SWCA remains at the forefront of geospatial innovation. Their combined experience and leadership have been instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and creativity within our GIS community. Together, they have significantly advanced our GIS projects, developed innovative applications and methodologies, and positioned SWCA as a leader in the environmental consulting industry. These leaders have been instrumental in advancing GIS projects and have also played a crucial role in building the SWCA culture. Beyond their technical contributions, they also help shape SWCA’s culture—for example, Anne is a Co-Lead of SWCA’s Disability and Critical / Chronic Illness Employee Resource Group.
