They join us from across the country, bringing with them a fresh perspective, boundless energy, and a shared commitment to our mission of providing sound science and creative solutions to global environmental challenges.

MEET SWCA’S 2024 INTERNS

Our 2024 Intern Class was selected through an application process that sought individuals who not only excelled academically but also demonstrated a strong passion for environmental conservation and sustainability. Their diverse backgrounds, innovative thinking, and commitment to making a difference in the world stood out among a competitive pool of candidates #NeverSettle.

A COMMITMENT TO LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

In line with our core value of #AlwaysLearning, SWCA is deeply committed to the learning and development of our interns. We understand that today’s interns are tomorrow’s leaders, and we provide them with a rich learning environment that enhances their current academic knowledge and equips them with real-world skills and experiences. Our intern program is designed to expose them to a wide range of projects, mentorship opportunities, and the chance to work alongside some of the best experts in the industry to hone their skills. This year’s cohort had the opportunity to attend sessions with President and CEO, Joseph Fluder, Pat Ahern, Vice President, Talent Acquisition and Development, and Siena Dute, Marketing Content Developer and Social Strategist, as well as other key leaders across the organization.

SWCA also recognizes the importance of equipping leaders with the skills necessary to foster a valuable internship program. For first-time supervisors managing an intern, additional support and training is provided. This prepares managers to maximize our interns’ experience and to advance and grow their own careers as they develop their skills as people leaders.

Our interns are already making significant contributions to a range of projects, showcasing their ability to apply their knowledge and adapt to new challenges. Here’s a glimpse into some of the exciting work they’re involved in:

  • Cultural Resources: Participating in archaeological surveys and historical research to ensure the protection of cultural heritage sites.
  • Natural Resources: Contributing to watershed analysis and restoration projects aimed at improving water quality and habitat for wildlife.
  • Environmental Planning: Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Environmental Assessments (EA) for various development projects.
  • HR and Employee Experience: Improving employee experiences, from recruitment to wellness, supporting our #OneSWCA value.
  • IT: Enhancing our tech and security, keeping SWCA on the cutting edge.

These projects not only provide our interns with invaluable experience but also contribute to our mission of promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship. Interns also gain exposure to general business knowledge that will help them navigate their future careers including how to build their personal brand through channels like LinkedIn.
