After a disaster strikes, SWCA can act as an extension to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) staff and its contractors by mobilizing quickly for rescue and recovery efforts once on-the-ground conditions are safe. SWCA has experience with both pre- and post-disaster support relating to FEMA’s Region IX Hazard Mitigation Technical Assistance Program (HMTAP).
Since 2019, SWCA has worked as a subconsultant to provide environmental support services to comply with the requirements of NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and other federal laws and Executive Orders for hazard resiliency projects seeking HMTAP funding through the FEMA HMTAP. SWCA is currently working or has worked on more than 30 projects to date, which have included waterline retrofits and replacements, stormwater infrastructure repair, water reservoir seismic retrofits, riparian restoration, structural seismic retrofits, emergency generator installations, powerline and utility undergrounding projects, flood reduction and sea level rise infrastructure upgrades, and fuel reduction.
