The Endangered Species Act affects all natural resource professionals. Changes to implementing regulations, policy, and court decisions require an ongoing awareness of the ESA and practical applications to your projects.
Webinar Topics: This four-hour webinar will review the sections of the ESA, implementing regulations, policies, and important court decisions. This course will specifically address practical application of Sections 4, 7, 9, and 10 of the ESA and how these affect ongoing and future project development.
Instructor: Dr. Richard Valdez is a fisheries and wildlife professional with over 35 years of experience throughout the western United States, Canada, and Alaska. He is a former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service endangered species coordinator and a member of several recovery teams. He has participated in numerous recovery plannings, consultations, and permit development for threatened and endangered species.
Who Should Participate? You will benefit from this webinar if you are a federal, state, or local agency staff member; environmental planner and engineering consultant; facility manager; utility project manager; attorney; or landowner or developer.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the history of the Endangered Species Act.
- Distinguish the role in ESA of legislation, executive orders, implementing regulations, agency policy, and court decisions.
- Know and understanding recovery planning, Section 7 consultations, and permitting.
- Understand the process for listing and delisting species, and critical habitat designation.
- Understand the process for Section 7 consultations and development of habitat conservation plans.
- Know where to access pertinent information to stay apprised of recent changes that affect ESA.
