US Forest Service
Issues New
NEPA Regulations

Aug. 1, 2008 -- On July 24, 2008, the U.S. Forest Service issued new National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations. The Forest Service has moved its NEPA procedures from directives to regulations that incorporate Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) guidance and better align Agency NEPA documentation to Agency decision-making processes. Most existing Forest Service NEPA procedures have been moved to regulation without substantial change.
