Polar Bear Listed as Threatened Species
May. 14, 2008 -- This week, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne announced that he will list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Recommendation for the listing was given by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dale Hall. The listing is based on data, which show that loss of sea ice threatens and will likely continue to threaten polar bear habitat.
